From humble beginnings, Nelspecs started out in the 60’s originally as Brian Plum LTD. In 1979 Doug Fitzsimons purchased the business and changed the name to Nelson Electronics Specialist.
During these years of operation, the company was focused on general electronics and appliance repairs. By 1985, the business began to focus on communications which has become its primary business.
In 1985, the name Nelson Electronics Specialists was simplified to the ‘Nelspecs’ that it is known by today and is owned and operated by Steve Fitzsimons (Son of Doug Fitzsimons) at it’s current premises on 173 Haven Road
Nelspecs has been in the electronics since it’s beginning days. Originally servicing appliances such as TV ‘s and Stereos, the company evolved with the technology.
In the late 1980’s Nelspecs primary business was in selling and servicing printers, faxes as well as communications equipment such as two way radios, telephones and audio equipment.
In 1989, Nelspecs sold their first mobile phone when they become appointed the first Telecom Mobile Centre in the Top of the South. The company operated as a Telecom Mobile Centre untill 2014 when the business was split.
Now primarily a Two-way radio dealer, Nelspecs has thoroughly carved out an important niche selling and supporting radio communications products from brands such as Tait, Hytera, Kenwood and Motorola. The company has also invested in creating many radio repeaters sites which build up its impressive radio network which has become the backbone of many local industries.
